We
Three Kings by by
J. H. Hopkins Jr.
We three kings of Orient
are,
Bearing gifts we traverse afar,
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder Star.
O, star of wonder, star
of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to Thy perfect light.
Born a babe on Bethlehem's
plain;
Gold we bring to crown Him again;
King forever, ceasing never,
Over us all to reign.
O, star of wonder, star
of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to Thy perfect light.
Frankincense to offer have
I;
Incense owns a Deity nigh;
Prayer and praising, all men raising,
Worship Him, God on High.
O, star of wonder, star
of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to Thy perfect light.
Myrrh is mine; its bitter
perfume
Breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb.
O, star of wonder, star
of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to Thy perfect light.
Glorious now behold Him
arise,
King and God and sacrifice,
Heaven sings, "Alleluia!"
Alleluia!" the Earth replies.
O, star of wonder, star
of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to Thy perfect light.
It is a
misconceived thought that the wiseman arrived at the stable on the night of
Jesus' birth. They actually arrived about a year later to a house
that Mary and Joseph were dwelling in. We know this because Herod asked
when the star appeared and later killed all the children 2 and under. They
had probably started their journey when Jesus was born, because that is when
the star would have appeared. So it could have taken them a year or more
to get
there, we are not sure. But the scriptures clearly word it this way Matthew
2:9-12 And
behold the star which they had seen in the east went before them and stood
over where the young child was. When
they saw the star they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy And
when they had come into the house they saw the young child with Mary His
mother and fell down and worshiped Him. And
when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts unto Him; Gold,
frankincense and myrrh
As the wisemen gave gifts
so very long ago, so we give to each other as a reminder of the gifts that
were given to the Christ child. All over the world Christmas is
celebrated by many nations. It truly is a wondrous time of year.
